Police arrest 14 for DUI
During the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 3, police arrested 14 motorists for drunken driving. One driver was involved in a traffic crash. One was under the age of 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 9; South Hilo, 4; and Puna, 1.
So far this year, there have been 99 DUI arrests compared to 118 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16.1 percent.
There have been 102 major accidents so far this year compared to 126 during the same period last year, a decrease of 19 percent.
So far this year, there have been seven traffic fatalities on Hawaii Island compared to no fatalities during the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
