Police arrest 28 for DUI
During the week of Feb. 4-10, Hawaii Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Three were under the age of 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 17; South Hilo, 5; Puna, 4; Ka‘u and South Kohala, 1 each.
So far this year, there have been 127 DUI arrests compared to 157 during the same period last year, a decrease of 19.1 percent.
There have been 132 major accidents so far this year compared to 157 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.9 percent.
So far this year, there have been eight traffic fatalities compared to one fatality during the same period last year, an increase of 700 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
