Twenty-five arrested for DUI
Big Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunken driving between Feb. 25 and March 3, the Hawaii County Police Department announced Tuesday.
Four of the drivers were involved in traffic collisions.
Police have arrested 210 drivers for driving under the influence this year. There were 249 arrests during the same time period last year, a decrease of 15.7 percent.
Major wrecks are also down.
Police reported 228 major wrecks so far this year compared with 272 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16.2 percent.
There have been nine traffic fatalities compared with six during the same period last year, an increase of 50 percent. DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide, police said.
