Woman dies after car hits her

A woman died Tuesday night after being run over by a car in South Kona.

The victim was identified as 30-year-old Jasmin K. Robertson of Honaunau.

Police responding to a 6:38 p.m. call determined that Robertson, who they say appeared to be intoxicated, had been sitting on the northbound lane of Highway 11 near the 107-mile marker when she was struck by a northbound 2003 BMW two-door sedan driven by a 50-year-old Captain Cook man.

Robertson was pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m. at Kona Community Hospital.

The BMW’s driver was wearing a seat belt and wasn’t injured.

Police do not yet know if speed, alcohol or drugs were involved on the part of the driver but said Robertson had been drinking.

A negligent homicide investigation has been opened and an autopsy ordered.

Robertson’s death is the 36th official traffic fatality on the Big Island this year compared to 18 at the same time last year.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call Officer Larry Flowers at 326-4646, ext. 229.
