Efforts continue to remove grounded boat
HONOLULU (AP) — Efforts to remove a 40-foot boat stuck on a barrier reef in Kaneohe Bay where it is doing damage to corals was unsuccessful, but plans remained in place Friday to try and remove it.
The boat has been grounded since Tuesday. Efforts to remove it Thursday were not successful. The Nature Conservancy says considerable damage has been done to a portion of the barrier reef with over 100 coral heads smashed.
The state says marine salvage contractor Parker Marine Worldwide, LLC attempted to remove the vessel during the high tide early Thursday morning, but ran into some problems while trying to protect the reef. The salvage crew was going to try again early Friday.
