Fire knocks out power to 5,000 electric customers

KANEOHE, Hawaii (AP) — Service has been restored to about 5,000 Hawaiian Electric Co. customers on Oahu who lost power because of a fire.

Soon after the fire broke out power was restored to all but about 500 customers in the Hokulele and Crown Terrace subdivisions. Crews finished restoring power to all customers early Tuesday morning.

Repair work required replacing a wooden pole and overhead lines near Windward Community College.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
