Fugitive surrenders at Honolulu airport

HONOLULU (AP) — A fugitive who was indicted for wire fraud relating to an investment fraud scheme has surrendered.

The FBI says 63-year-old Peter Heckmann surrendered Tuesday at Honolulu International Airport after voluntarily returning to Hawaii to face charges.

A Honolulu grand jury indicted Heckmann on charges 5 years ago. Prosecutors say he fled and they became aware in 2010 that he was on the island of Bali, where he was operating a recording studio and a record label.

Earlier this year, the FBI launched a social media campaign on the Internet to generate interest in an international manhunt for Heckmann. The Honolulu FBI also made contact with him urging a peaceful surrender. Heckmann traveled to Honolulu to surrender.
