Murder suspect gets prison time

HONOLULU (AP) — A man who escaped custody as he was being held on a murder charge has been sentenced to a prison term.

Circuit Judge Glenn Kim on Wednesday sentenced 30-year-old Teddy Munet to five years in prison for escape and 10 years for robbery.

Munet is charged with fatally shooting 29-year-old William Fallau. Fallau’s body was found July 19, 2012, in Kawainui State Park Reserve.

Munet on Feb. 20 was in custody and scheduled for a pretrial hearing. While in handcuffs and a belly chain, he bolted from a loading dock at the Honolulu Circuit Court building. Police arrested him 12 hours later.

Munet’s trial on charges of second-degree murder and drug and weapons counts is scheduled to begin Oct. 7.
