A fugitive wanted on a sexual assault charge in Texas was arrested Tuesday night in Hawaiian Paradise Park.
The Hawaii Fugitive Task Force apprehended 19-year-old Samuel Lawrence Adkins at about 7 p.m. at a rental home at 15-2019 8th Ave.
The U.S. Marshals Service said in a written statement that Adkins was wanted by the state of Texas for one count of aggravated sexual assault, a felony. The alleged incident took place in the early morning hours of July 30 in Austin, and Atkins allegedly used the threat of deadly force during the offense.
The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force received information that Adkins fled Texas for Hawaii, and the Hawaii Fugitive Task Force picked up the investigation. Marshals said that as officers approached the home where Adkins was staying, he fled out the back door and a short foot chase entailed.
Adkins is currently in custody in lieu of $500,000 bond at the Hawaii County Correction Center, awaiting an extradition hearing.
The Hawaii Fugitive Task Force is a statewide multi-agency force comprised of state sheriffs, all county police departments and Hawaii High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA).
