Herbert Tadayoshi Hayama, 74, of Hilo died Dec. 23 2012 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kona, he was a retired county Building Department civil engineer and a consultant for the county Housing Department, was previously employed by Wesley R Segawa & Associates Inc. and JHK Tanaka Inc., and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and Hoyukai Friendship Society, Anela Kumiai, Hawaii Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, and various golf clubs. Visitation 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Casual attire. No koden (monetary gifts) or flowers. Survived by wife, Phyllis Hayama of Hilo; daughters, Mari (Ray) Nakamura of Hilo and Claire (Kirk) Horiuchi of Honolulu; sisters, Elaine (Kenneth) Sugiyama and Irene (Gary) Higashi of Kona; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.
