Richard Augustine DeSa, 71, of Pepeekeo died Nov. 30 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honomu, he was a retired regional manager with the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), a former professional baseball player in Japan with the Daimai Orions and the Kintetsu Buffaloes, and former pitching coach for the University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans baseball team. Visitation 4-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 5 p.m. Graveside urn committal service 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7 at Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Kotone DeSa of Pepeekeo; sons, Richard Y. (Lisa) DeSa Jr. of Mililani, Oahu, and Dean S. (Nami) DeSa of San Jose, Calif.; daughter, Susie M. (John) Dill of Pepeekeo; brothers, Joseph DeSa Jr. of Honolulu William (Linda) DeSa of Las Vegas; sisters, Shirley (William) Ferreira and Marilyn (Reynold) De Costa of Hilo; nine grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Yaeko Shigezawa Shimomura, 88, of Kailua-Kona died Nov. 23 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Puunene, Wailuku, Maui, she was a housewife. Visitation 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at Kona Outdoor Circle, 76-6280 Kuakini Hwy. Kailua-Kona. Memorial service at 1 p.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by son, Peter Shimomura of Los Angeles; daughter, Joyce Stabbert of Seattle; brothers, Etsuo (Julia) Shigezawa, Natsuo (Katherine) Shigezawa and Haruo (Ruth) Shigezawa of Honolulu, Yoshio (Lee Ann) Shigezawa and George (Aileen) Shigezawa of Wailuku, Maui, Kazumi (Esther) Shigezawa of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Annette Sumada of Hilo, Mieko (John) Gash of San Jose, Calif., Fusae Shigezawa of U.S. and Satsuki Childers of Kaneohe, Oahu; nieces, nephews and cousins.
