Dorothea Virginia Cullen, 95, of Hilo died Dec. 30 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Missouri, she was a retired bookkeeper. No services. Survived by daughter, Geraldine (Charles) Hanson of Costa Mesa, Calif.; son, William “Bill” F. (Ellen I.) Cullen of Honolulu; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mark Rommel Mahuna, 59, of Waimea, died Dec. 12 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Hilo, he was a law enforcement officer for the Department of Land and Natural Resources, former security guard for Mauna Lani Resort and NAH Security, former boat builder for Radon Boats Hawaii and commercial fisherman. Survived by wife, Camilla Loke Mahuna of Waimea; sons, Chad Mahuna and Cody Mahuna of Waimea; daughter, Moani Mahuna of Waimea; mother, Leatrice Mahuna of Ka‘u; brother, James Mahuna of Kau; sister, Nalani (Darrel) Ridenour of Colorado; nieces and nephews. Gilbert L. Silva, 84, of Keaau, died Dec. 29 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Laupahoehoe, he was a retired county mechanic, rancher, member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Mountain View and U.S. Army veteran. Visitation 5-9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 6 p.m. Visitation again 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo. Mass at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire. Burial at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Survived by Wife, Janet G. Vicente Salmo Sol, 87, of Naalehu died Dec. 15 at home. Born in Sisim, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he worked for Ka‘u Agribusiness and was a member of Naalehu Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Margaret Watanabe, 83, of Keaau died Dec. 10 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired nurses’ aide for St. Francis Hospital. Visitation 9:30-10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11 at Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home. Service at 10 a.m. Burial at noon at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Oahu memorial services 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at Foster Village Veterans Center in Honolulu. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by sons, Craig (Brenda) Watanabe of Keaau and Gary Watanabe of Los Angeles; daughter, Carol Watanabe of Honolulu; sisters, Gladys (Charlie) Morisako and Barbara Shimabukuro of Oahu, Takino Murata of Washington; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
