Sonja Hermanns, 80, of Kealia died Dec. 27, 2012, at her residence. Born in Poland, she was a sales associate at the Grass Shack store in Kealakekua. She was co-owner of Hale Hana Niu. Friends may call at 6 p.m. July 19 at Pukaana Congregational Church in Kealia for a memorial service. Casual attire. Taeko Hirayama, 93, of Volcano died June 24. Born in Pahoa, she was retired as a housekeeper. Private services held. Survived by sons, Ernest (Lang) Hirayama of Las Vegas, Arthur Hirayama of Volcano, Gene (Virginia) Hirayama of Volcano; daughters, Carole (Derick) Matsunami of Honolulu, and Maule Akana of Honolulu; brothers, Hiroshi (Constance) Kaku of California, Noboru Kaku of California, and Shoji Kaku of Las Vegas; sisters, Masako Inada of Hilo, and Chiyoko Takaki of Honolulu; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Lt. Col. (Retired) Robert S. “Butch” Rodrigues, 68, of Waimea died July 8 at Tripler Army Medical Center on Oahu. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired U.S. Army infantry officer, Vietnam veteran and an attorney in Waimea. Visitation to be held from 8-10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Honokaa; Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at noon at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Aloha attire. Survived by wife, Tove Rodrigues of Waimea; sons, Robert S. (Carolyn Carter) Rodrigues Jr. of Kona and Michael Rodrigues of Oahu; daughters, Elizabeth (Brian) Rogers of Richmond, Kentucky, and Monica (Bobby) Williams of Oahu; hanai brother, Melvin (Eva Kuhlman) Miranda of Waimea; brother, Michael (Candace) Rodrigues of Oahu; sister, Kathleen “Bunny” (Jessie) Bates of Oahu; 12 grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Maile Thelma Schuwer, 68, of Kailua-Kona died July 2 at the Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, she was a retail clerk at both 7-Eleven and Chevron. She was co-owner of Kuno’s Hawaii. Friends may call at 1 p.m. July 20 at the old airport pavilion No. 4 in Kailua-Kona for a celebration of life. Casual attire, flowers welcome. Survived by son, James (Kanani) Schuwer of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Maria (Don) Schuwer-Marous of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Walter (Anne) Keamo, Apua Keamo and George (Alberta) Keamo, all of Oahu; sisters, Johana (Patrick) Fernandez, Ally (Edward) Lopes, Emily Mamane, Matilda (Wiliam) Kahoonei and Inchon Keamo, all of Waianae, Oahu; one grandson; three great-grandsons; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
