Misao Fujio Enomoto, 93, of Volcano died Feb. 8 in Honolulu. Born in Pahoa, she was a retired seamstress and farmer. Visitation 1- 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Community of Christ Church in Hilo. Memorial service at 2 p.m. Casual attire; no flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by daughter, Ernestine Enomoto of Honolulu; brother, Jack (Joanne) Fujio of Seattle; sisters, Ann DeRamos of Kailua, Oahu, and Harriet Fujio of Honolulu.
Stephen P. Fernandes, 89, of Papaikou died March 9 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Papaikou, he was retired from the former Onomea Sugar Plantation, a U.S. Army veteran and member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Hawaii Island Ostomy Association. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Burial at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima section. Survived by sisters, Dorothy (John) DeConte of Laupahoehoe and Eleanor Fernandes of Papaikou; brother-in-law, Thomas “Tommy” Rapoza of Hilo; sister in-law, Eleanor Rapoza Chow of Hilo; nieces and nephews. Marian Momoyo Hironaga, 87, of Pearl City, Oahu, died Feb. 19 at Kuakini Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in South Kona, she was a homemaker. Services held. Survived by husband, Edwin Makoto Hironaga of Pearl City; sons, Mark Hironaga of Kihei, Maui, Lance (Hope) Hironaga of Pearl City and David Hironaga of Honolulu; brothers, Kazuo (May) Maruyama of Volcano, Hideo (Gayle) Maruyama of Kona and Teruo (May) Maruyama of Honolulu; sisters, Fusano Harai and Carol Hanaoka of Honolulu; two grandsons. Sadato Miyashita, 91, of Hilo died March 7 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was retired from Meadow Gold Dairy and a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and Nohea Kumiai. Services held. Alfred “Al” Montoya, 43, of Las Vegas died March 1 in Las Vegas. Born in Hilo, he was a security worker at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino. Mass at 10 a.m. Survived by mother, Mona Rivera of Hilo; daughter, Monique Montoya of Las Vegas; brother, Jay Montoya of Hilo; uncles, aunts and cousins.
Nobuko “Jo” Sawada, 86, of Hilo died March 3 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired seamstress for Hilo Hattie and member of Hilo Hooganji Mission. Services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by husband, James Sawada of Hilo; son, Alden (Cathy) Sawada of Kona; brothers, Sadaki Fujisawa of Hilo and Noboru Fujisawa of Maui; sisters, Michiko Yahata and Kiyoko (Donald) Tokuoka of Honolulu; sister-in-law, Thelma Fujisawa of Honolulu; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Maile Bartolome’s name was misspelled in an obit for Robert Louis Wong in Thursday’s paper. Wong also has a sister-in-law, Amelia Wong of Kohala, whose name was omitted.
