Yoshio Hayashi, 80, of Honolulu died on March 5 in Honolulu. Born in Hilo, he was a retired graphic designer and artist and U.S. Army veteran. Survived by spouse, Leslie Hayashi; brothers, Susumu, Kenneth, Stanley and Larry Hayashi; sisters, Sue Ellen, Kathleen, and Ruth. Celebration of Life will be held on March 30 at the Makiki Community of Christ, 1666 Mott-Smith Drive. Visitation 4 p.m.; services 5 p.m. Casual attire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Library.
James N. Kuritani, 86, of Kurtistown, died March 13 at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Keaau, he was a retired farmer and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission Kyodan, Kurtistown Jodo Mission Kyodan, and Kurtistown 11 Miles Kumiai. Private services held. No koden (monetary gifts). No flowers. Survived by wife, Mieko Kuritani of Kurtistown; daughter, Kathleen (Steven Hurt) Sakamoto of Hilo; sister, Ruth Ota of Denver, Colo.; sister-in-law, Alice Kuritani of Chandler, Ariz.; a grandson, a granddaughter, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.
