Sumie Goto, 81, of Hilo died Oct. 2 at home. Born in Hilo, she was a retired teacher at Hilo Union School. Private services. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). James G. A. Pai, 77, of Kailua, Oahu, died Sept. 14 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Hawaiian Telephone Co. operation center manager and retired Hawaii Army National Guard captain. Visitation 5-6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14 at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary. Service at 6:30 p.m. Committal service 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15 at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Genevieve Pai of Kailua; son, Lambert Pai of Kailua; daughter, Carlene (Ralph) Nakata all of Kailua; sister, Harriet Brott of San Francisco; brother, John Pai of Hilo.
