AJA All-star team set for state tournament


The Hawaii All-Stars will travel to Honolulu to compete in the State AJA baseball tournament, April 6-7. The All-Stars face Maui at 10 a.m. April 6 at Les Murakami Stadium, with the Oahu-Kauai game to follow. The championship and third-place match game be held April 7.

Members of the Keaukaha Warriors and Waiakea Pirates will comprise the Big Island club.

“The players had a great season and we expect to challenge and play well at the state tournament,” league president Royden Okunami said.

The Warriors swept the Pirates in the best-of-three championship series, getting a 13-strikeout shutout from Aaron Correa in the clincher, a 1-0 victory.

Waiakea and Keaukaha both finished the regular season with 5-2 records, while the Corsairs went 1-7 with an upset victory against Keauhaka to their credit.

Keauhaha’s Cortney Arruda was named league MVP, the Pirates’ Bryce Onaga (.522) won the batting title and Kylen Uyeda (seven) took the RBI crown.

The top ten batters were Bruce Onaga, Shannon Camero, Tyson Goo, Tyler Thornley, Pat Tsue, Tyler Higa-Gonsalves, Thad Estrada, Rory Inouye, Shaye Miura, and Randy Iha.
