UIC $10 card set for Oct. 6
Unorthodox Industries Championships will hold a mixed martial arts card on Saturday at Hilo Civic, featuring Hilo’s Toby Misech vs. Kona’s Tyler Kahihilolo in a pro bout at 145 pounds and also three title fights. Kahihilolo holds the Up-and-Up pro belt and Misech has three different amateur belts.
Tickets are $10 and are available at CD Wizard, Big Island Surf, Hilo Fight Company and C-Thru Tinting in Kona. There is free admission for children 10 and under. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with action to start at 6:30 p.m.
There are three champion vs. champion bouts on the card: UIC 155-pound lightweight champ Miles Campbell vs. Up-and-Up (Oahu promotion) champ Kawika “Tips” Martin; UIC 170 welterweight champ Pono Kuikahi vs. Destiny (Oahu) champ Nathan Harris; and Just Scrap 135 bantamweight champ Riquo Abadilla vs. Bone Pali, UIC 145 featherweight. Abadilla and Pali will fight for vacant UIC 135 belt.
The card titled “Never give up the fight” will donate a portion of the proceeds to Kamalu Kabalis, who suffered a head injury in March and is currently in California for treatment, and local MMA fighter Palema Amone, who was recently paralyzed in an accident.
Pro showcase Sunday at Waiakea
For the first time a pro baseball showcase will be held in Hilo. Local scouts from Oahu and a few from the mainland are expected to watch a scrimmage featuring Big Island players at 8 a.m. Sunday at Waiakea High’s field. Hawaii and UH-Hilo coaches are also expected to attend.
The main focus will be on Waiakea senior catcher Kean Wong, who is regarded as the state’s top pro prospect. Coordinator Kaha Wong will also hold a Hilo college camp, bringing in 18 schools, on Dec. 10-11.
