The holding period for the 28th annual Quiksilver-Kamaaina Motors Big Island Pro-Am Surfing Trials will be held from June 9 to Sept. 28 at Honolii Beach Park.
Surfing divisions are men’s open, women’s open, open longboard (9 feet and over) and open bodyboard, and the contest is limited to the first 80 entrants. The fee is $60, which includes a T-shirt, and the deadline is June 8. Entries can be downloaded at orchidlandsurf.com.
Prizes include 10 round-trip airfares and 10 entries to a North Shore professional surf contest to be held between October and February. Winning surfers will also get sponsor prizes, and additional prizes will be awarded to four men, two bodyboarders, two longboarders and two women. A Firewire Surfboard will be awarded to the first-place men’s finisher.
When the wave holding period starts, contestants should call Orchid Land Surfboards (935-1533) on Friday mornings to check on weekend surf conditions.
