This time, Hawaii Prep’s boys basketball team kept its foot on the gas pedal.
Junior forward Buck Thomas scored 15 points, and junior guard Kalan Camero chipped in 13 as the Ka Makani cruised to a 76-52 win over Seabury Hall in the third-place game of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II tournament Saturday at Neal Blaisdell Center.
Senior guard Jovan Crnic added 12 points, and sophomore forward Nicolas Palleschi had 10 for HPA (10-5), which led 18-5 after one quarter. Ka Makani held a 10-point lead over Saint Francis in the state semifinals a day earlier, but the Saints chipped away at the advantage and rallied for a 55-53 victory.
Against Maui Interscholastic League champion Seabury Hall (14-3), however, HPA built on its advantage, with its lead ballooning to 42-18 by halftime. It’s the Ka Makani’s second consecutive third-place finish at states.
Camero nailed two 3-pointers, and the Ka Makani shot 82 percent (13-of-16) from the free-throw line.
Senior forward Kaleb Palmer hit three 3s and finished with a team-high 18 points for the Spartans. Junior forward Cameron King added 12 points.

Pahoa 47, Waianae 42: In his final high school game, senior guard Nick Fisher scored 25 points — more than half his team’s total — at Blaisdell Center as the Daggers topped the Seariders in the tournament’s fifth-place game.
Seniors Randin Napeahi and Joseph Lefiti added six points apiece for Pahoa (10-7), which pulled away down the stretch after the BIIF runner-up Daggers and the Oahu Interscholastic Association runner-up Seariders (8-7) played to a 28-28 tie entering the fourth quarter.
Senior forward Jamal Lopez scored a team-high 14 points, and junior center Bronson Brown-Kaopua added 11 for Waianae, which went 17-for-24 from the free-throw line.

Punahou 67, Konawaena 41: Senior guard Nick Velaquez scored 16 points in the Division I third-place game for Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Punahou, which enjoyed a considerable size advantage against BIIF champion Konawaena.
Kupuno Fey, a 6-foot-6 senior forward, added 13 points, and 6-7 sophomore Daniel Andrews had 10 for the Buffanblu (11-5), which led 23-11 at halftime.
Senior forward Nick Mims and junior forward Jonah Bredeson each scored 10 points for the Wildcats (13-2), who shot just 44 percent (11-for-25) from the free-throw line. Senior guard Kenan Gaspar added seven points.
