Husky no-hitter sends UH home
Washington’s pitching silenced the University of Hawaii softball team’s bats, again.
Bryana Walker fired a no-hitter and the Huskies ousted the Rainbow Wahine from the NCAA regionals with an 8-0 win Sunday in Seattle.
Walker whiffed 12, walked two and the game ended after the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule, a day after fellow Husky Kaitlin Inglesby threw a two-hitter in a 2-0 win over UH.
No. 9 Washington (41-15), the top seed in the region, advances to the NCAA Super Regionals. No. 20 UH finished the season at 45-13.
UH senior Kaia Parnaby allowed five runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings and took the loss. She finished with a 39-6 record, and had three complete games earlier in the regional.
In the third inning, Inglesby blasted a two-run homer and Whitney Jones drilled a three-run homer.
Walker walked Majam in the first inning and Iwata in the fourth. Otherwise, she was perfect, retiring the side in order in the fifth.
UH loses four senior starters in ace Parnaby, centerfielder Kelly Majam, shortstop Jessica Iwata and outfielder Brynne Buchanan.
