Online Extra: Kamehameha cruises past Kealakehe in pool

Sydney Plunkett powered Kamehameha with six goals and Acacia Trusdell added five Saturday as the Warriors beat Kealakehe 19-9 in Big Island Interscholastic Federation water polo at Naeole Pool in Keaau.

Hali’a Nahale-a chipped in with four goals and Paula Imoto scored two for Kamehameha (2-0). Ho’ea Maka’ike and Chloe Martins-Keliihoomalu also scored.

The Waveriders (1-1) got two goals apiece from Marissa Bryant-Manago, Naomi Tomlinson, Mehana Pilago and Riley Carson. Bryant-Manago netted a hat trick later in the day as Kealakehe rebounded to beat Waiakea 8-5. Tomlinson scored twice again and Pilago and Hannah Hewitt found the net once each. The other scorer was not available. Hewitt also scored against Kamehameha.

Konawaena debuted its team in the pool with a pair of losses. Hilo’s Ginger Carlson scored 10 goals as the Vikings beat the Wildcats 20-2. Alana Flaherty and Angela Krahner added four goals each for Hilo (1-1). Karyana Norris and Hilda Friday also scored for the Vikings, while Sarah Albrecht and Emily McKinley scored for the Wildcats.

Waiakea beat Konawaena 18-4 behind five goals from Kirstie Flores-Onishi and four by Jillian Hughes. Katrina Ombac and Kirsten Nakamura each had hat tricks, Akemi King scored twice and Zoey Chang added a goal. Hughes (three goals) and King (two) carried the load for the Warriors (1-1) in their loss to Kealakehe.

For the Wildcats against Waiakea, Mahealani Yoshida tallied three goals and Cameron Linden scored once.
