Online Extra: Lady Vulcan golfers in 8th place
The University of Hawaii at Hilo carded a first-round 339 on Saturday and was in eighth place heading into today’s final round of the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout in Vallejo, Calif.
The women’s collegiate golf tournament is being played on the Hiddenbrooke Golf Course.
Nyssa Aoki led the Vulcans with a 79 on Saturday and was tied for 10th place. Teammate Kristen Sawada had an 80 and was tied for 13th. Also competing for the Vulcans were: Erika Morihiro, 89, T-43rd; Jade Salvador, 91, T-48th; and Kacie Harada, 92, 49th. UHH’s Shannon Abarra is playing as an individual and shot an 87, and was tied for 34th.
Cal State East Bay’s Andera Castellanos and George Fox’s Kelsey Morrison fired even par 72s and were tied for the lead heading into today’s action.
Cal State Monterey Bay and host Cal State East Bay were tied for the team lead with 315 totals. They are followed by George Fox (317), Western Washington (320), Academy of Art (324), Sonoma State (328), Chico State (330), UH-Hilo (339), Simon Fraser (376), Simpson (384) and Dominican (411).
