Online Extra: Long Beach downs Rainbow Wahine in the sand
Long Beach State won three-set matches in the top two flights Tuesday to beat the University of Hawaii 4-1 volleyball at their sand court in Southern Californoa.
The No. 2 49ers (6-1) clinched the match when their No. 1 pair, Caitlin Ledoux and Tara Roenicke, rallied to beat Jane Croson and Ashley Kastl 19-21, 21-10, 15-7.
That made Bre Mackie and Chelsea Cabrajac’s 21-10, 19-21, 15-13 victory against Natasha Bell and Tai Manu-Olevao academic.
Ali Longo and Karlee Riggs gave the No. 5 Rainbow Wahine (3-3) their lone victory in the third flight, beating Delainey Aigner-Swesey and Libby Fontanilla 21-18, 21-17.
Earlier in the day, Lauren Minkel and Jocelyn Neely beat Katie Spieler and Ginger Long 21-14, 21-17 at No. 4; and Tyler Jackson and Janisa Johnson defeated Kuulei Zalopany and Olivia Urban 21-15, 22-20.
