Online Extra: UH men swept in opener
The University of Hawaii hit just .101 in dropping its season opener Friday in Provo, Utah.
Taylor Sander was efficient in swatting 14 kills as Brigham Young won the men’s volleyball match 25-18, 25-22, 25-17.
Jace Olsen’s 10 kills were offset by 11 errors as the Warriors picked up where they left off last season, which ended with an eight-game losing streak.
The All-American Sander hit .524 as the Cougars attacked at a .338 rate and posted 11 team blocks to beat Hawaii for the fifth consecutive match. Ben Patch added eight kills and four blocks, and he and Sander took over in Game 2, combining for 10 kills and only one error.
JP Marks added seven kills for Hawaii, but he also had seven errors.
