Price to speak at UHH event
Hawaii Radio personality Larry Price is the featured speaker at the annual University of Hawaii at Hilo Baseball Silent Auction/Dinner on Sunday, Jan. 27 in the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel’s Moku’ola Room.
Following a football career at the University of Hawaii where he participated in three Hula Bowls, Price signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Rams.
He returned to his alma mater in 1974 to become its head coach. Price was later inducted into the UH Sports Circle of Honor in 1994 and voted to the “All Time” UH Football team.
After retiring from the gridiron, Price joined KSSK Radio as vice president of public relations and publicity and in 1989 was named “Radio Broadcaster of the Year” by the Hawaii Association of Broadcasters.
In 2009, Price was named by the Honolulu Star Bulletin as one of the 100 Centurians-100 years UH Football program.
“During my collegiate years, I was blessed to have two outstanding mentors – Les Murakami and Larry Price - who helped shape my future coaching career,” UH Hilo Baseball Coach Joey Estrella said.
“They taught me to always do things the right way with respect, character, and high morals.
“Our annual fundraiser is critical for our program to afford the costs of competing in the PacWest conference. However, with the addition of four new conference schools this year, our travel costs have increased since we now must make two mainland road trips. We really need community support more than ever.”
The fundraiser starts at 5 p.m. with a silent auction followed by dinner. Tickets are $75 with corporate tables of six or eight available.
