RBI girls split pair
Aliese Kaneshiro scattered six hits and Tomiko Coito and Gayla Ha-Cabebe each drove in two runs as the Hilo All-Stars defeated Anaheim 9-6 in the first round of the RBI Softball West Regional on Friday.
The three-team regional is being played at Westminister High School in Westminister, Calif.
Kaneshiro got the win. Coito (double), Ha-Cabebe, Kayla Requelman (double, triple, RBI) and Bethany Batangan each had two hits for the team representing the Nobu Yamauchi RBI program from Hilo.
Earlier in the day, Arizona blanked Hilo 8-0. Chelsea Camello took the loss.
Tavian Taketa was the lone Big Island batter to pair hits.
Hilo plays the same two teams today in another twinbill, with the two teams with the best record after today advancing to the final.
The champ advances to the RBI Softball World Series.
