Red-hot Hashimoto, Kaipo scorch lanes

The scores are starting to soar in Big Island Interscholastic Federation bowling, with 11 players rolling games of 200 or better on Saturday.

At Kona Bowl, Konawaena’s Tyler Hashimoto torched the lanes for a 681 series, with games of 256, 200 and 225 as the Wildcats beat Hilo 3-0 in an early season battle of BIIF contenders.

Wildcat teammate Rodney Torres also had a productive day, chalking up a 226 game in the morning session in a 3-0 win over Laupahoehoe, then adding a 202 in the impressive sweep of the Vikings.

At Hilo Lanes, Waiakea’s John Kapio toasted the polished hardwood with a 658 series, with games of 215, 228 and 215 to lead the defending champion Warriors to a 3-0 win over Ka‘u.

Waiakea teammate Tevin Nakashima also had a quality performance with high games of 195 and 207 as the Warriors swept Ka’u and Pahoa.

Also bowling at least 200 high games on Saturday were Kealakehe’s Harley Jarris (216), Waiakea’s Ashton Flores (231), Hilo’s Kendrick Dacayanan (222, 201), Davin Yagi (207) and Josh Kirkpatrick (201) plus Konawaena’s Melissa Simon (208, 206) and Waiakea’s Leycie Yoneda (211).

BIIF action continues at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kona Lanes with Pahoa vs. Konawaena and Kealakehe vs. Waiakea. Then at 1 p.m., it’s Ka’u vs. Konawaena and Kealakehe vs. Keaau.
