Police ID driver in fatal crash
Police have identified the driver killed in a fatal crash Wednesday as Patrick W. Agcalon.
The 36-year-old Mountain View man and his male passenger died Wednesday from injuries they received in a single-vehicle crash on North Glenwood Road in Mountain View.
Responding to a 3:45 p.m. call, Puna Patrol officers determined that a 1999 Honda CRV multipurpose vehicle was traveling east on North Glenwood Road when it ran off the roadway and struck a utility pole and a tree.
Agcalon and his male passenger, who has not yet been identified, died on scene.
The passenger was wearing his seatbelt, but the driver was not. Police believe that speed and alcohol were both factors in this crash.
Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a negligent homicide and coroner’s inquest investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
The name of the second victim is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of the next of kin.
This is the 21st traffic fatality on Hawaii Island this year compared with 23 at this time last year.
