The National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association will present a special certificate to Waiakea senior Mary Economy for maintaining a 4.0 grade point average while participating in swimming and water polo for the Warriors.
Each member of Waiakea’s boys team will be honored for its average GPA of 3.33. Earning the bronze level for the scholar team award were James DeReis, Tony Dollwet, Grayson Goodale, Ku’oko’a Glory, Kaloli’i Glory, Kai Hendershot, Drew Holloway, Daniel Kimura, Noah Kimura, Felix Peng, Ben Poppas, Gavin Sako and Teddy Uekawa.
PCA workshops

The Department of Parks and Recreation and the Positive Coaching Alliance will offer workshops on April 26 and June 15.
• The April 26 workshop will be held from 4-6 p.m. at Waimea Community Center for adults 12-18.
According to a release, the “Triple Impact Competitor workshop will help to improve performance by focusing on effort and learning rather than results. How to recover quickly to get ready for the next play. To hone a mental game that enables you to rise to the occasion under pressure.”

• The second workshop, Double-Goal Coaching, runs 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Kamehameha Park in Kohala.
Open to adults for a $5 fee, the “workshop will teach you how to improve your athlete’s performance by focusing on effort rather than results. Teach athletes (how) to compete fiercely while honoring the game (and) deal with common coaching challenges.”

Century benefits N.H. Hospice
The Hawaii Cycling Club’s second annual Hawaii Century on Sunday, starting and ending at Spencer Beach Park, will benefit the North Hawaii Hospice.
With three routes – 110 miles, 64 miles and 30 miles – the Century is an opportunity for novice and intermediate athletes as well as experienced cyclists.
The fee is $50 by Friday and $60 afterward.
There are three ride distances: 110 miles, 64 miles and 30 miles.

Brantley Center golf benefit
The 37th annual Brantley Center Golf Tournament will be held at 7:15 a.m. April 26 at Big Island Country Club.
Entry fee is $125, which includes golf, lunch and prizes (including a $10,000 hole-in-one award). There will also be a silent auction.
The Brantley Center provides adult day programs for clients with physical, emotional or mental disabilities.

UH-Hilo clinics in Waimea
Waimea Athletics will host a free youth clinic featuring the University of Hawaii at Hilo baseball and softball programs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 26 at Waimea Park.
Players 9-14 will participate in advanced hitting, pitching-catching, batting and fielding stations.
Deadline to order optional clinic T-shirt is April 17.
