Alleged Keaukaha stabber re-arrested
Police have re-arrested a Kaʻu man accused of a non-fatal stabbing May 10 near James Kealoha Beach Park, also known as 4-Mile, in Hilo.
Detectives took 46-year-old Paul Gibson of Ocean View into custody Thursday morning in Hilo District Court.
Gibson, who was free on $374,000 bail, had appeared in court for the continuation of a preliminary hearing to determine if prosecutors had enough evidence to take him to trial. The preliminary hearing was no longer necessary because a grand jury indicted Gibson on Wednesday for attempted second-degree murder, third-degree assault, two counts of terroristic threatening, five firearms offenses and resisting an order to stop.
Gibson’s bail was increased following the indictment to $700,000. Police said he’s incarcerated at the Hilo police cellblock until his arraignment Friday in Hilo Circuit Court.
