Police investigating body found in Wainaku
Police are investigating a body found in Hilo over the weekend.
Officers responded to an 11:42 p.m. call Saturday and received information that a fisherman had discovered a body along the shoreline off Hawaii Belt Road in the Wainaku area.
The body, believed to be that of a female Caucasian, has not been identified.
A coroner’s inquest case has been opened. Criminal Investigations Section detectives are reviewing missing person cases and have not ruled out foul play.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, to determine the cause of death and to attempt to identify the victim.
