Suspect in custody in Kona shooting

Police have arrested a 44-year-old Honaunau man after a Thursday evening shooting that hospitalized a housemate.

At 6:35 p.m. Thursday, Kona Patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting on the 83-5300 block of Hawaii Belt Road (Highway 11) in Honaunau.

At a house rented by several tenants, police found a 52-year-old resident with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The man was taken by ambulance to Kona Community Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Police arrested another tenant at the scene, Monte Moreau, on suspicion of attempted murder. He is being held at the Kona police cellblock while Kona police detectives investigate the shooting.
