The Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce has announced its 2011 Athena Award Leadership program. The Athena Award ceremony and Chamber general membership luncheon meeting will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center’s Moanahoku Hall. The event is sponsored by HPM Building Supply and De Luz Chevrolet.
“Pay It Forward” will be the theme as the 2011 Athena Award recipient and her accomplishments are celebrated. The award will be presented to a woman who actively assists other women in realizing their full leadership potential. Athena recipients are recognized for their contributions toward other women in the field of mentoring, employment, education or an investment in the welfare of women.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Constance Lau, president and chief executive officer of Hawaiian Electric Industries. She is the only woman CEO among the State of Hawaii’s publicly traded companies. Lau has held several high positions in HEI as well as nonprofit organizations. She is an alumna of Punahou School, Yale University, the University of California and Stanford University. She has received numerous accolades and is well known for her outstanding achievements and work in the Hawaii community.
