Jacob “Jake” Albin Ronning, 33, of Keaau died Dec. 20 at his residence. Born in Everett, Wash., he was a former transporter for Hertz Car Rental in Hilo. Friends may call 1-5 p.m. Sunday for a celebration of his life will at the Wailoa State Park large pavilion. Casual attire. Survived by his mother, Linda L. Ronning of Keaau; father, Bruce (Susan) Ronning of Stanwood, Wash.; maternal grandmother, Ila Elaine Fox of Snohomish, Wash.; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Judith Kuia Ahmoy Ching Ah Sam, 74, of Halaula died Dec. 30 at her residence. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired teacher, and a member of the Tong Wo Society and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Friends may call 8-11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kohala Ward; service at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Hawi County Cemetery. Survived by her husband, Henry Ah Sam of Kapaau; daughters, Julie (Robert) Dirks of Hilo, Kathleen (Joseph) Germaine of Provo, Utah, and Lisa (Mark Mims) Williams of Columbus, Ga.; brothers, Clarence Ching of Waimea and Kenneth (Aileen) Ching of Honolulu; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Fusako “Bernie” Matsumura, 95, of Hilo died Jan. 1 at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Paauilo, she was a produce manager for Food Town, a retired bookkeeper from Hawaii Produce and Farmers Inc., and a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Kyodan and Buddhist Women’s Association (Fujinkai), Hiroshima Kenjinkai and Yamaguchi Kenjinkai. Friends may call 4-5 p.m. Tuesday at Dodo Mortuary’s Hilo chapel; service at 5 p.m. Casual attire. Survived by her daughter, Jean Maeda of Hilo; daughter-in-law, Harriet Matsumura of Pear City, Oahu; brother-in-law, Yasuo (Matsuko) Matsumura of Hilo; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
