Members of the Big Island Road Runners invite the community to join them Saturday as they pursue a couple of their favorite hobbies — running and/or walking, and helping others.
Starting at 8 a.m. on both sides of the Big Island, the Resolution 5K Run/Walk is being staged to support the Hawaii Island United Way (HIUW) and, as a side benefit, the health of participants.
The Hilo start will be at Lili’uokalani Park, near the Hilo Hawaiian. In Kona, the event will begin near the park at the Old Kona Airport in Kailua. The corporate sponsor is HELCO.
“The Big Island Road Runners proudly hosts this ‘electrifying’ run to benefit our Hawaii Island United Way,” said a race spokesman. “Along with the generosity of HELCO, we thank you for making a ‘resolution to energize your life’ and the life of our community.”
All of the net proceeds will stay on the Big Island and will help 53 HIUW locally funded programs.
The Hilo course will continue from Lili’uokalani Park via Banyan Drive, past the Ice Pond and up to Kalanianaole Avenue, then turn around and head back to the park.
The Kona course will travel from the Old Kona Airport via the walking/jogging path, then up to Kuakini Highway for the turnaround.
Entry fees vary: $35/$25/$15. Those under 18 will need a parental approval signature. Registration and check-in will be from 7 to 7:45 a.m.
