The Kona Crime Prevention Committee recognized Officer Kaeo Drummondo as “Officer of the Month” for January in a luncheon ceremony on Wednesday at Huggo’s restaurant in Kailua-Kona.
Drummondo was honored for what Sgt. Grad Elarionoff described as his “relentless” pursuit of leads while investigating an auto theft case.
While obtaining the victim’s initial statement, Drummondo noticed a vehicle similar to the stolen one parked nearby.
Further investigation determined that it was unregistered.
Drummondo painstakingly traced that car to a man who was in possession of the stolen vehicle, which had fraudulent license plates and a new paint job.
“Within one week, Officer Drummondo was able to gather information, follow up on leads, identify the responsible person and locate the vehicle,” Elarionoff said.
“Subsequently, the suspect was arrested … and the victim’s vehicle was returned.”
As Officer of the Month, Drummondo is eligible to become Officer of the Year.
