The Hawaii Academy of Arts and Science presents “A Midwinter’s Night Swing,” an evening of big-band swing music with Marius Stranger’s Island Swing Orchestra, Saturday, Jan. 21, 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Akebono Theater in Pahoa.

Three vocalists will dazzle and delight: local jazz and blues singer Elena Welch, plus Marius Stranger and Kau’ilani Trainer, both winners in the state’s Art Song Competitions.

The evening will also feature all-star swing dance highlights by Center Stage dance studio, a dramatic tango demonstration by Kalani Ridolfi-Dunn and Junior Hakkei, a spicy Carmen Miranda vignette by Alexis “Lexy” Lee and performances by acrobats Annetta Lucero, formerly of Cirque Du Soleil and partner Noah Moore — all to benefit HAAS students.

There will also be homemade chili and snacks by Kathy of “Pot Head Soups” available for purchase, with all proceeds to HAAS, and a silent auction of unique treasures.

Tickets are $20 premiere seating, $15 regular seating and $10 standing room, available at Jeff Hunt Surfboards and Big Island Book Buyers in Pahoa, Basically Books in downtown Hilo and at the SPACE Saturday farmer’s markets in Kalapana Seaview Estates, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
