Former Hilo High School multisport standout Reed Sunahara resigned as University of Cincinnati volleyball coach Monday after 12 seasons with the Bearcats.
“This has been something I’ve been thinking about for some time,” Sunahara, 49, said on gobearcats.com. “Fifteen years at one place is a long time. I have thoroughly enjoyed my association with UC and I am grateful that I have the chance to go out after winning the Big East Tournament.”
Sunahara served three years as an assistant at Cincinnati, then became the winningest coach in program history, leading the Bearcats to five conference championships and a win at the Big East Tournament last season.
“Reed has laid a tremendous foundation for the next coach to build upon,” athletic director Whit Babcock said. “We are grateful for his services and wish him the best in future endeavors.”
