The Episcopal Church of the Holy Apostles will host a series of grant-writing classes on four Saturdays beginning Jan. 28. “Introduction to Grant Writing,” is designed for the novice.
These classes are open to the public and are intended to prepare writers for grants available in the spring.
Each class will be three hours, presented from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
This introductory class will focus on sources of funds, how to write a proposal, what to look for in a grant solicitation, advanced preparation and basic sections.
The other three classes will be Feb. 4 and 25, and March 3.
The presenter is Carole Ishimaru, an experienced grant writer who has been writing grants for more than 30 years. In her most recent class, three of five neophyte grant writers were able to secure grant funds totaling more than $10,000. Each welcomed the funds to aid their program objectives, which would have otherwise lacked funding.
Enrollment is limited to 10 students on a first-come, first-served basis.
Classes will be held on the patio of the Church of the Holy Apostles at 1407 Kapiolani St., which is located below the old University of Hawaii at Hilo gym.
There will be a materials charge of $30 and a tuition fee of $24. Call 935-5545 to register.
Other series topics include the construction of a grant, including the purpose, justification/need, budget, outcomes, evaluation and organizational structure; the implementation and critique of a developed proposal for submission to a funding source, and exposure to diverse structures of grants, grant-writing teams and interagency collaboration.
