AlohaCare has awarded $30,000 in its annual AlohaCare Believes in Me Scholarship program. This yearâ 13 Hawaii Island residents got some help to attend the University of Hawaii at Hilo and Hawaii Community College.
Since the scholarship program was launched in 2003, AlohaCare has awarded nearly 200 students with more than $250,000. Scholarships range from $750 to $2,000, based on the individual needs of each student and the chosen campus.
“Having a college degree plays a key role in earning potential and career advancement,” said John McComas, chief executive officer of AlohaCare. “Unfortunately, for many in Hawaii, the cost of going to college makes it unattainable. By providing college scholarships to students with financial needs, we are helping them to secure a better future for themselves and their families.”
