The Keaukaha Legends and Keaukaha Warriors brought out the heavy lumber on Sunday and wracked up lopsided victories in Hawaii AJA Memorial Baseball League action.

In a doubleheader at Wong Stadium, the hard-hitting Legends crushed the Waiakea Pirates 14-2 while the first-round champion Warriors handed the Corsairs a 9-0 TKO loss.

Action continues Sunday in the four-team league with the Corsairs (0-7 overall, 0-1 second round) taking on the Pirates (3-3, 0-1) at 10 a.m., followed by the Legends (4-2, 1-0) against Warriors (6-1, 1-0) at 1 p.m. in what promises to be a slugfest.

Second baseman Randall Iha, a current Hilo High standout, went 4 for 5 and drove in five runs to lead the Legends’ 14-hit attack. Shortstop Kean Wong, a multitalented Waiakea High star, had three hits, three RBIs and scored three runs. Kodi Medeiros (2 RBIs) and Tyler Higa-Gonsalves each had two hits while teammate Chad Teshima had a hit and an RBI.

Center fielder Dan Gushiken was the lone Pirate to pair hits.

Starter Austin Ah Hee (three innings, five hits, one run) and reliever Kian Kurokawa (four innings, three hits, one run) combined on a eight-hitter. Kurokawa, the current Hilo High School ace, picked up the win. Pirates starter Darren Takasaki (three innings, eight hits, seven runs) took the loss.

Warriors 9, Corsairs 0: Catcher/first baseman Bryson Aoki had two hits and an RBI while Kiley Kawazoe (double) and Cortney Arruda (home run) each had a hit and two RBIs to lead the Warriors. Aoki, Arruda and center fielder Shannon Camero each scored two runs.

Catcher Michael Sayaboc had two hits to lead the Corsairs’ offense. Aaron Nishiura and Robbie Meguro each had a hit to round out the squad’s four-hit attack.

Southpaw Aaron Correa started for the Warriors and pitched four innings. He allowed two hits, no runs and struck out four. Reliever Arruda came on to hurl three shutout innings, giving up a hit, a walk and striking out four. Arruda got the win with one inning of relief support from the steady Davey Camacho and the crafty Kawazoe.

Nicholas Fukunaga started for the Corsairs and went four shutout innings. He didn’t allow a hit while walking one and striking out a batter. Reliever Cody Walker took over in the second and gave up two hits and a run. Walker took the loss. Pono Correa then pitched 32/3 innings as the Warriors plated seven runs to break the game open. Meguro wrapped up the final one-third of an inning with a strikeout.
