Jennifer Marshall of the distinguished national think-tank Heritage Foundation will be speaking in Hilo. The topic will be: “Hope for Hawaii Education: How we can win school choice?”
The talk is open to the public and will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, at the New Star restaurant, 172 Kilauea Ave., Hilo.
Marshall is director of domestic policy studies for the Heritage Foundation, widely considered one of the world’s most influential public-policy research institutes. In 2010, National Journal named her “one of 12 power players” in Washington, D.C., for her work on school choice and education reform.
Marshall will be speaking about Hawaii’s education system at several engagements around the state.
Big Island residents ranked education their No. 1 concern at the recent Hawaii Island Economic Summit. There are ongoing concerns about the quality of Hawaii’s public schools, the increasing popularity of charter schools, the recent HSTA contract and teacher performance evaluations. Marshall will provide insight on such issues.
The Conservative Forum for Hawaii and The Hilo Tea Party are jointly sponsoring Marshall’s Hilo presentation. A $15 entry fee will include buffet dinner.
