Firefighters had to overcome a number of obstacles Thursday morning in their efforts to rescue a woman trapped in a vehicle following a wreck in Mountain View.
According to a release from the Hawaii County Fire Department, firefighters responded at around 9:15 a.m. to Highway 11 near Old Volcano Road after a passenger car collided with a dump truck. The dump truck was in flames and live electrical wires lay on the ground.
While one group of rescuers worked to remove the woman from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life, another group attacked the fire.
The fire was brought under control by 9:20 a.m. and extinguished by 10:13 a.m., the release stated.
Then, the company that operated the dump truck was provided information on how to contain and clean up diesel fuel and oil found at the scene.
