The exhibits open Friday, Feb. 3, with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Moon’s workshop will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Jan Moon, a 52-year resident of Hawaii, will display her artwork in a show titled “Joys of Nature Paintings on Silk” in the East Hawaii Cultural Center Mauka Gallery in February.
A lifetime artist and naturalist, Moon paints on silk using the oriental watercolor style with bamboo brushes and silk dyes individually mixed to create a wide range of translucent colors.
A book author and illustrator, she also draws by using pen, ink and watercolor on paper, and has composed a coloring book about the life of the underwater world. She has traveled the world, learning batik and painting techniques with village artists in Asia and Polynesia, and with Chinese and Japanese masters in Hawaii. She has a great love of the natural world.
Moon will teach a silk painting workshop demonstrating easy techniques. Call 961-5711 or stop by the EHCC office to register. The fee of $50 covers supplies.
An exhibit of Hawaii Community College student artwork — photography by young Korean artists — will also be on display in February.
