Weekly Scandinavian Odinist religious services will start in mid-February at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in the Kilauea Military Camp Chapel, serving during those occasions as Freyja Hof, the Temple of Freyja Odinia Invictus.
This is the first time Odinist services have been offered in Hawaii and many people of European origin will now have the opportunity to explore their culture and celebrate their native spiritual traditions, said a spokesman. All are welcome.
Odinism is the native religion of the Celtic, Germanic and Scandinavian peoples and other European tribes. It is derived from that of the ancient Greeks, who are the ancestors of the Norse peoples.
The first KMC service will include a religious ritual. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, on the Feast Day of Vali. There will be annual handfasting ceremonies, for which preregistration is needed.
In addition to regular weekly services and symbel feasts, usually on Saturdays, the group will sponsor other European cultural and social events.
A Nordic chorus, called Vasens Hymner, is now forming.
