Junior Daven Namohala-Roloos scored 16 points and Ciera Pacheco hit two free throws with 18 seconds left in the third overtime to lift Waiakea to a thrilling 56-55 win over Roosevelt on Tuesday night in the first round of the Division I girls state basketball tournament on Oahu.
The Warriors, the Big Island Interscholastic Federation runner-up, trailed late in regulation before tying the contest 43-43 on two free throws by senior Alyssa Ferreira. They then had a chance to win it at the end of regulation but missed a shot in the final seconds at the Moanalua High School gym.
Both teams scored four points in the first OT, which ended deadlocked at 47-47. Then after a scoreless second overtime, Waiakea (12-1) outscored Roosevelt, the Oahu Interscholastic Association third seed, 9-8 in the third extra period to pull out the exhausting win.
Pacheco, a senior guard, followed Namohala-Roloos with 15 points and Ferreira had 13. Senior forward Tricia Amuimuia added eight. Chelsea Wong led Roosevelt with 14 points and Kira Arruda had 13.
Roosevelt led 26-25 at the intermission and 38-36 at the end of the third quarter. But Waiakea outscored the Oahu squad 7-5 over the final eight minutes to force OT.
The Warriors, under veteran coach Grant Kauhi, will play third-seeded Lahainaluna at 5 p.m. today in the quarterfinals at Moanalua. Roosevelt (10-7) dropped into the consolation bracket and will meet Kaimuki at 3 p.m. today at Moanalua.
The top four seeds in the 12-team tournament — No. 1 Konawaena, No. 2 Iolani, Lahainaluna and No. 4 Pearl City — drew first-round byes and play in today’s quarterfinals.
Today at McKinley Gym, defending state and BIIF champion Konawaena (12-0) plays Kaiser (13-3) at 5 p.m., followed by OIA champion Pearl City (13-1) vs. Tuesday’s Kamehameha-Kapalama-Kahuku winner at 7 p.m.
On Tuesday, Kaiser beat Maui High 53-24.
Following today’s Waiakea-Lahainaluna game at Moanalua, Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Iolani (11-1) will battle Mililani at 7 p.m.
The D-I games move to Blaisdell Arena on Thursday, with the semifinals at 5 and 7 p.m. The D-1 fifth place, third place and final as well as the D-II final will be played Friday at Blaisdell.

* Honokaa 58, Seabury Hall 26: Junior Yvonne Daniels scored 13 points, sophomore Hunter Liftee 12 and sophomore Shemika Frazier and senior Precious Chong 11 apiece to lead the BIIF runner-up Dragons to a lopsided win over Seabury Hall at the Radford Gym.
Honokaa (8-5) led 14-6 at the end of the first period and 24-16 at the intermission. Coach James Lukzen’s team then ran away in the second half, outpointing Seabury Hall 34-10 to advance into today’s quarterfinal round.
Tiana Camarillo led Seabury Hall (5-2), the Maui Intersholastic League champion, with 11 points.
Today at 5 p.m. in the quarterfinals, the Dragons face fourth-seeded Kauai (11-2), the Kauai Interscholstic Federation champion.

* Hawaii Prep 50, University High 38: Senior Leahi Lindsey scored 14 points, sophomore Chancis Fernandez 11 and senior Nani Lum nine to lead the Ka Makani (7-5) over the Junior Rainbows (11-2) at the Radford Gym.
Crystal Wang led UH with 10 points.
Hawaii Prep led 21-18 at the intermission and held a 31-28 advantage through three quarters. But the Ka Makani outpointed their Oahu foe 19-10 in the fourth period to chalk up the win.
Hawaii Prep, which won the BIIF third-place game to get to states, plays top-seeded Radford, the OIA champion, at 7 p.m. today in the quarterfinals at Radford.
The tournament’s top four seeds — Radford (9-4), No. 2 Kamehameha-Hawaii (10-2), No. 3 Maryknoll (13-0) and No. 4 Kauai (11-2) — drew first-round byes and play in today’s quarterfinal action.
Kamehameha-Hawaii takes on Hawaii Baptist (12-2) at 5 p.m. today at the Kalani Gym. The Eagles, the ILH’s No. 3 team, beat Kalani 50-43.
In the other game Tuesday at Radford, Hanalani defeated McKinley 41-38.
