Writing class at art center

The Volcano Art Center presents “Zen Pen — Writing as a Spiritual Practice” from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, at VAC’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village. In this workshop, writing instructor Tom Peek will guide participants through a series of writing exercises that will develop and expand inner and outer awareness. No previous writing experience is necessary. Beginners welcome. Workshop cost is $85, $77 for VAC members. To register, please call Volcano Art Center at 967-8222.

Tom Peek has taught his popular writing workshops since 1991. He has written for over 30 years, both professionally and as a potent way to process and guide the experiences of his life.


Elder honored by Consulate staff

Life Care Center of Hilo elder Otsuru Kaneshiro was recently visited by members of the Japanese Consulate staff to honor her 100 years of longevity.

In addition to a visit from family members, Kaneshiro was honored by Hiroshi Yamaguchi, Hiroko Seto and Ikuo Tanimoto of the Japanese consulate in Honolulu.
