Laverne Amay, 70, of Hilo died Feb. 1 at home. Born in Hilo, she was a retired installation coordinator for Hawaiian Telephone and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Herbert Patrick De Luz, 78, of Honokaa died Feb. 4, at Hale Ho’ola Hamakua. Born in Pepeekeo, he was a rancher-meat cutter for Frank De Luz Ranch, cook, president of the Resident Council at Hale Ho’ola Hamakua, member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa and former member of numerous community, church and business groups.
