Defending Division II boys soccer state champion Honokaa will begin its title defense at 3 p.m. Thursday against Castle of the Oahu Interscholastic Association.
The Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Dragons (16-0) earned the top seed in the Hawaii High School Athletic Association state tournament at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on Oahu. Castle (5-8) was the runner-up in the OIA.
BIIF runner-up Christian Liberty (9-4-3) will open play against No. 3 seed Kahuku (7-4-1), winner of the OIA. BIIF third-place squad Makua Lani (9-7) takes on second-seeded Kapaa (9-1-2), winner of the Kauai Interscholastic Federation. All games are at 3 p.m. Thursday.
In Division I, BIIF champ Kealakehe (13-1-1) earned the fourth seed and earned a bye in the first round. The Waveriders will play at 3 p.m. Thursday against the winner between Iolani (7-1-2) of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and Aiea (8-5-1) from the OIA.
